You’re dimmer than you were before
they swallowed you whole.
Before the sound of your heart aching
was muffled by the black of somebody’s throat.
Before your eyes adjusted to emptiness
and squinted once they saw the outside.
How quickly that which was close to us becomes
foreign and soon, forgotten.
How quickly we shy away from the sun.
